Paris Jazz Clubs
The characteristic of French jazz is that it is open to other forms of music (electro, african, oriental) and very creative.
A typical form of this creative influence on jazz is "gipsy-jazz" (jazz manouche), illustrated in the 1940s by Django Reinhardt (guitar) and Stéphane Grapelli (violin) with the Hot Club de France.
Today, famous French jazzmen include Didier Lockwood (violin), Martial Solal (piano), Jean-Luc Ponty (violin), Michel Portal (clarinet), Claude Bolling (piano), Michel Edelin (flute), Dany Doriz (vibs), etc...
Nowadays, you can find jazz clubs that reflect all sorts of taste, from Dixieland to fusion, from blues to world music. Many of these clubs are listed in the weekly entertainment guide Le Pariscope which you can pick up at any newsstand.
If you plan on being in town for a while, check out www.parisjazzclub.net If you join this association, you’ll receive special admission to jazz events at three major jazz clubs, Duc des Lombards, Le Baiser Salé and Sunset/Sunside.

Paris is full of great Jazz clubs where you can spend an evening listening to music and drinking. It’s love affair with jazz, may have something to do with its liberation at the end of World War II.
After four years of desolation and constraint, the strains of jazz arrived from America, with waving flags, and dancing in the streets.
