Cookware from France
We would like to introduce you to several brands, which are authentically French.
If you enjoy cooking, particularly in the gourmet traditions of France, we are sure you will appreciate the high quality of these selections.
Le Creuset
Cast iron casseroles
Le Creuset is a French cookware manufacturer best known for its colorful enameled cast iron casseroles, which the company calls "French Ovens”. The company also makes many other types of cookware, from sauce pans to tagines. Le Creuset was founded in 1925 in the town of Fresnoy-le-Grand in Northern France by two Belgian industrialists, Armand Desaegher and Octave Aubecq.
They introduced the signature Le Creuset round cocotte (French/Dutch Oven) that remains the company's most popular cookware piece to this day. French/Dutch ovens are particularly useful for cassoulet, and other long-baking stews such as chili con carne, cholent, and bouillabaisse. Le Creuset enameled cast iron can be used on all cooking surfaces, including electric, gas, glass halogen and induction cookers. It can also be used for food storage (in the refrigerator) and in the oven.
Currently, all Le Creuset cast iron cookware is still produced in the company's foundry in Fresnoy-le-Grand, where artisans employ a 12 step finishing process implemented by 15 different pairs of hands to ensure that there are no flaws or imperfections in the final product. Other Le Creuset pieces include stoneware (produced in Thailand), enamel over steel stockpots (produced in China), and silicone bake ware (produced mainly in the U.S.)
Emile Henry
Glazed Ceramic Tableware and Bake ware
Thanks to its clay, rich in refractory properties, Burgundy has always been a fertile area for potters, passing on their savoir-faire from generation to generation. The rich soil and famous vineyards have also contributed to Burgundy's gastronomic reputation, producing many great chefs and regional specialties. Burgundy clay evenly and slowly diffuses cooking heat to the very center of the cooking dish. This brings out the food flavors and aromas. It has superior heat retention properties which keep food hot and more flavorsome when resting aside.
Emile Henry is a manufacturer of ceramic ovenware, tableware, and bake ware products. Founded in 1850, and located in Burgundy, France, by Jacques Henry. The production continued through many generations of Henry family, and today the company employs 200 people and have a strong and recognized brand name: Emile Henry.
All products are direct freezer-to-oven. They do not chip or crack easily. One can cut directly on the surface without scratching or damaging the product. The surfaces do not trap and hold baked on or burnt food. Cleaning is remarkably easy and they are dishwasher safe.
The FLAME line of casseroles has particular properties allowing direct cooking on all kinds of stove tops (gas, electricity, halogen) and furnaces (traditional and microwaves). We invite you to experience the French authenticity and excellence of the Emile Henry line of consumer and professional cookware.
Sabatier — Fully Forged Cutlery Made In France
Sabatier is the brand name or makers mark used by several kitchen knife manufacturers. The name Sabatier is considered to imply a high quality knife produced in the Thiers region of France using a fully forged process. The knives of some of these manufacturers are highly regarded by professional and amateur cooks alike.
Among the many Sabatier manufacturers in Thiers, France, most provide high quality cutlery using traditional forging techniques that were developed in the area in the early and mid-1800s. Most of these manufacturers use a "fully forged" technique and a hand shaping and sharpening process using local skilled labor. While there are many knife manufacturers using Sabatier as their brand, some Sabatier manufacturers are considered authentic, and some are not. Generally speaking among connoisseurs of fine cutlery, only knives manufactured in Thiers, France from well established manufacturers from the 19th century are considered "genuine" Sabatier knives. Manufacturers in the other countries, that also use the Sabatier name on their products, generally manufactured them cheaply, in mass production processes in China and other countries. These manufacturers generally use non-traditional and lower quality semi-forged and welded production techniques.
Sabatier is the premier French brand of kitchen cutlery and is the first choice of French chefs. You can choose between several lines of the Sabatier cutlery: Grand Chef, Provence, Fuso and Au Carbone line. We have chosen to feature Sabatier because there are no better kitchen knives made in the world and we highly recommend them.
Even if you are not going to Paris, to taste some of the specialties, you can still recreate some of the traditional dishes at your home.
Good ingredients are very important, but a good cookware are part of a successful meal.
